How to Use the Network Map

The Network Map is easy-to-read representation of where the Pelican devices are installed within your building and how strong the wireless connectivity is between the Pelican devices. In order to make the Network Map a functional troubleshooting tool, it’s ideal to have a map of our building’s floor plan and place the Pelican devices (nodes) in their installed locations.

How do I make changes to the location of the nodes on the Network Map?

  1. To move the nodes on the network map, begin by selecting the padlock on the top-right of the screen.
  2. Then drag the node(s) to their proper location(s).
  3. When done, select the padlock again to save these changes.

How do I add or update my building’s floor plan map?

Select Menu, then Floor Plan...

Using a .png, .jpeg, .gif or .pdf, browse and select your building floor plan and select Upload Now.

Tip: For best results, the image should have a white or transparent background, and should fit top-to-bottom on a standard computer display, which is typically 850 pixels tall and the width should be proportional.

If the image map is too large or needs to be resized, contact Pelican Technical Support at support@pelicanwireless.com.

What does the Start Scan feature do?

When performed, a Start Scan is done in real-time and reflects the current state of the network. The scan instructs the device to test which Pelican devices are directly within wireless range.

  1. Go to Admin > Network Map.
  2. Select a Pelican device.
  3. Select Start Scan.
  4. Verify line colors and device connections.

What do the numbers in the circle indicate?

The number in the circle is an indication of how strong the wireless signal is from the device relative to the device where the Scan was performed. A higher number equals greater signal strength. Any number less than seven (7) equals low signal strength.
